Blade CX2 Crashed and Burned

"Well I've been getting quite brave lately with my Blade CX2 where I fly it round the rumpus room and then fang it out the doors to contend with the elements of nature and I must admit it wasn't the wind or any flying birds that caused the crash, it was purely pilot error.

Thinking I was the guy out of the Airwolf TV series I found myself getting my thumbs mixed up and by mistake I gave it extra throttle instead banking forward and hence my CX2 collected a tree (it was very high up) and down she came in a blaze of glory.

Well I'm exaggerating but the tail has completely broken in half and even though you could fly it it just looks weird. Bit like taking you mini moke to a car rally ….so off to the Toys R Us guy to see what he can do for me for a new tail piece or do I do a Dale and order the u-bute carbon fibre assembly - who knows."

Meet the Shark

Whilst nothing to do with the CX2, I thought this was very interesting as it's a helicopter that uses coaxial rotor blades, exactly like the CX2.

team mojo3 takes a dive

After garnering the courage to head outside with my new pimped out ride, I hit the local park looking to get in some valuable flying time...

As I arrived at the park I suddenly realised I had only bought one battery, flying time was only going to be around ten mins at the most.. The wind had picked up, not the most ideal conditions for a newbie rc heli pilot... But not deterred by atmospheric conditions, I switched on the radio control, plugged in the battery, and brought the blades up to speed.

In hindsight I may of hit the gas a little to speedily and the chopper rose quite suddenly to about 3-4 meters ... Not too perturbed I reduced the throttle slightly to rain back in the blade cx2 when a large gust of wind caught my little beast unawares, turning in on its side, and sending it speeding to terra-firma...

I had prepared my self for the worst, but in the back of my mind I knew I had the indestructible skids, the lexan plastic canopy, the new blade grip system which meant the blades bent backwards instead of breaking, and the carbon tail boom.. All this meant my cx2 had a chance... And sure enough, the only issue were the blades bent back, and some grass and dirt caught up in the cogs...

If there are any upgrades I would suggest, its the indestructible skids and the blade grips from bladecx2.com.

We're Back Up and Flying ...

On Friday, Oddbod and I picked up some replacement / spare blades for our CX2's from Mr Heli and then today, I repaired and took her out for some test runs in my lounge room first and then over to a mate's house in his rather large backyard.

It was a nice still day, only a breeze once, which took it awfully close to the clothes line (phew). I did start to have an issue though, when making the CX2 go forward, it wasn't responding properly and at one point as it's elevation rose - I had it hovering as high as a two-storey house ;)

This is the upgraded Team Mojo3 Blade CX2..

My CX2 was all stock until my landing skids fractured after a somewhat sub optimal landing attempt... yes I will admit my landing skills are less then perfect.. I found some indestructible skids at BladeCX2.com.. Check it out..

Team Mojo3 Upgrades

Clear Plastic Canopy, Gun Metal Black finish, and Extreme stickers.
Graphite Tail Boom.
Shorten Steel Flybar for increased maneuverability.
Improved Blade grips to allow blades to fold back reducing blade breakages.

Out of Action

After breaking my lower blade, and then discovering the hairline break in the top blade, actually snapped off as well, I regrettably had to cease flight.

Until Tuesday, when Oddbod and I are off to see Mr Heli for spare parts.

I'm really enjoying my CX2, however, I need to get her out into bigger area without wind.

Update (15/1): Mr Heli wasn't there today, so tomorrow is another day.

Update (17/1): Still no parts from Mr Heli. Here's hoping by the weekend ...

Bad Ass CX2

Today, I had some really cool flight tests and I think I've got the trim down pat, just still getting use to the controls.

I tried to take it outside in my backyard, but it was too windy and it kept blowing the CX2 towards my house or off the grass, making it difficult to hover. The battery now needs charging as it started to feel sluggish and I'll looking forward to Sunday when Mojo comes around and we head out to the park.

Attack of the Blades

When trying to calibrate the trim on my CX2 after work today, she took off and came straight for me, slicing up my stomach ;)

She sure has got some power to her and goes to show I need more space for my trim testing.
